Of Water and the Spirit / Malidoma Somé (Putnam, 1994). The author spent his childhood in a traditional village in western Burkina Faso, then spent sixteen years in Roman Catholic schools. He returned to the village and underwent traditional initiation. Although his tribe is at the opposite end of Burkina from the parks, the traditions Malidoma describes are not far removed from those of tribes in the W area.
